NYC TV Mounting & Wall Installations
Wall Installation Service NYC — TV Mounting, Art, Shelving
TV mounting, gallery walls, and shelf installation across NYC. Here's how we handle plaster walls, how gallery wall spacing works, and what standalone bookings cost.
What wall installation services does Serenity Movers offer?
Our wall installations team makes your new home feel settled from day one. All services can be added to your move or booked as a standalone appointment.
- TV mounting: Any TV size on any wall type — drywall, plaster, brick, concrete. Includes finding studs or anchoring in masonry, mounting the bracket, hanging the TV, and cable management.
- Floating shelves: Single shelves, shelf systems, and IKEA BILLY / KALLAX units. Properly anchored and level.
- Art hanging: Single pieces, gallery walls, heavy mirrors, and large-format canvas. We use the right hardware for your wall type and the weight of the piece.
- Picture rail installation: Traditional picture rail hanging systems for pre-war apartments where drilling into original plasterwork is restricted.
- Curtain rod installation: Standard and ceiling-mounted curtain rods, including blackout systems and traverse rods.
- Full room setup: We mount the TV, hang the art, install shelves, and put together the furniture in a single appointment so you’re completely settled in one day.
TV mounting in NYC apartments — what you need to know
- Know your wall type before booking: NYC apartments have three common wall types — drywall (most common in post-war buildings), plaster over lath (pre-war buildings), and concrete or masonry (some older buildings and exterior walls). Each requires different anchors, drill bits, and mounting techniques. Our team identifies your wall type and uses the correct method.
- Stud location in NYC walls: Pre-war plaster walls often have irregular stud spacing and steel mesh beneath the plaster that confuses standard stud finders. We use professional-grade finders and manual probing to locate studs accurately before drilling.
- Cable management: We route cables through the wall (in drywall) or along the baseboard (in plaster) so no cables are visible. We do not run cables through walls in landmarked or co-op buildings where wall modification is restricted — in those cases we use cord covers that match your wall color.
- Weight limits and building rules: Some co-op buildings restrict drilling into certain walls or require building management approval for wall modifications. We check your building’s rules when you book.
Gallery wall planning — a guide for NYC apartments
- Start with the anchor piece: Identify the largest or most visually prominent piece. This becomes the center of your arrangement and everything else is positioned relative to it.
- Use paper templates first: Trace each frame onto paper, cut it out, and tape the templates to the wall with painter’s tape before committing to holes. This saves significant patching later.
- Maintain consistent spacing: 2–3 inches between frames reads as intentional. Less than 1.5 inches looks crowded; more than 4 inches loses cohesion.
- Mix orientations and sizes: A gallery wall with all same-size frames in the same orientation looks like an office hallway. Mix portrait and landscape, large and small.
- Eye level is 57 inches from the floor: The center of your gallery wall’s visual mass should sit at approximately 57 inches — the standard gallery hanging height that makes art feel intentional rather than too high or too low.
Frequently asked questions about wall installations
Can you mount a TV on a plaster wall in a pre-war NYC apartment?
Yes — pre-war plaster walls are one of our specialties. Plaster requires different anchors than drywall and standard stud finders often don’t work reliably through it. Our team uses professional stud finders and manual techniques to locate the structural elements behind the plaster, then uses the correct masonry or toggle anchors to create a mount that safely holds your TV. We never drill into plaster without confirming there’s structural support behind it.
How much does TV mounting cost in NYC?
TV mounting starts at $150 for a standard drywall mount. Plaster walls, masonry/brick, cable-in-wall routing, or very large TVs (75″+) may cost more. If you’re adding TV mounting to a Serenity Movers residential move, the service is discounted as part of your overall booking. Get an exact quote when you book your move or as a standalone service at (877) 887-1818.
Do you supply the TV bracket or do I need to buy one?
We can supply a standard fixed or tilting bracket as part of the service, or we can mount a bracket you’ve purchased. If you want a full-motion articulating arm (which extends the TV away from the wall and swivels), we recommend you select and purchase the specific model you want — full-motion brackets vary significantly in quality and compatibility, and your choice of arm is a personal preference. Tell us the bracket model when you book and we’ll confirm compatibility.
Can you hang heavy mirrors and large art in NYC apartments?
Yes. Large mirrors and heavy artwork require specific anchoring depending on weight and wall type. Items under 20 lbs can typically use drywall anchors; items over 20 lbs should go into studs or use heavy-duty masonry anchors in plaster. For items over 50 lbs, we always anchor into structural elements — never into plaster or drywall alone. Tell us the approximate weight of each piece when booking.
Can wall installations be booked without a move?
Yes — wall installations can be booked as a completely standalone service at any time. Whether you moved in last year and still have blank walls, or you’ve just bought new furniture and want professional installation, call (877) 887-1818 or get a quote online.
