- Co-op board approval gap: Your lease on the current apartment ends before co-op board approval comes through on the purchase. We move you out, store everything, and deliver to the new apartment when you close — sometimes 4–8 weeks later.
- Apartment renovation: Your new apartment needs work before you can move in. We store everything during the renovation and deliver when the space is ready.
- Downsizing: Moving from a 3-bedroom to a 1-bedroom and not ready to decide what goes permanently. We store the overflow while you settle into the new space and figure out what you actually want to keep.
- International move transition: Moving abroad for 6–12 months but keeping your NYC belongings. We store everything, maintain the inventory, and deliver when you return.

What is the difference between overnight truck holding and facility storage?
Overnight truck holding means your belongings stay in the moving truck — typically in a secured lot — for 1–3 nights. It’s the most convenient option for short gaps because there’s no transfer in and out of a facility, which reduces handling and cost. Facility storage is used when the gap is longer than a few nights. Your belongings are transferred to a climate-controlled warehouse and stored until your delivery date.
Is the storage facility climate-controlled?
Yes. Our storage facility is climate-controlled, maintaining consistent temperature and humidity year-round. This is important for wood furniture (which warps in high humidity), electronics, artwork, and musical instruments. NYC’s temperature swings between summer and winter make climate control a necessity, not a luxury, for long-term storage.
Can I access my belongings while they’re in storage?
Access to stored belongings during the storage period requires advance arrangement. Unlike a self-storage unit where you visit independently, our storage is managed inventory — we know exactly where everything is and can retrieve specific items with notice. Are my belongings insured while in storage?
Yes. Storage is covered under Serenity Movers’ liability policy. As with moves, you can choose released value protection (included free) or full value protection (available for an additional premium). How much notice do I need to give before delivery from storage?
We ask for a minimum of 72 hours notice for storage delivery, though more notice is always appreciated — especially for large deliveries or deliveries to buildings with strict elevator scheduling requirements. If your delivery address is a co-op or requires a COI, give us at least one week so we can coordinate building management in advance.
