Do I Need Wardrobe Boxes for Clothes During a Move?
Quick AnswerDo I need wardrobe boxes for clothes during a move? No. Wardrobe boxes are mainly useful for hanging clothes you want to keep on hangers and avoid folding, such as suits, dresses, coats, or delicate garments. Everyday clothing can usually be packed in regular moving boxes, plastic bins, or other containers the mover accepts.
The advantage of a wardrobe box is convenience and protection from creasing, not that movers require all clothing to travel that way.
Use Wardrobe Boxes for Clothes That Benefit From Staying Hung
If a garment would be annoying to fold, easy to wrinkle, or difficult to press again, moving it on a hanging rail can make unpacking much easier.
Regular Boxes Are Fine for Folded Clothing
T-shirts, jeans, sweaters, gym clothes, and similar items do not need the extra height of a wardrobe carton. Pack them in sturdy boxes or bins and keep the load light enough to carry comfortably.
Do Not Pay for Empty Space You Do Not Need
Wardrobe boxes are large. If you only have a few hanging garments, using several full-size wardrobe cartons may add unnecessary volume and material cost. Ask whether the mover can provide only the number you actually need.

Packing checkpoint: Use wardrobe boxes for garments that benefit from staying on hangers. Do not treat them as the default container for every piece of clothing.
Bottom Line
You do not need wardrobe boxes for all your clothes. Use them for hanging garments you want to protect from folding and pack ordinary clothing in regular boxes or bins. The right mix depends on your wardrobe and how much convenience you want at unpacking.
