Movers can often transport large houseplants on a local NYC move, but the plant’s height, pot weight, branch spread, temperature sensitivity and building route matter. Very rare or fragile plants may be safer in your own vehicle or a separate dedicated plan.
Plan your own transportation between apartments unless the moving company explicitly says otherwise. Keep your keys, phone and essentials with you, and make sure someone can meet the crew at the destination if the truck arrives first.
A moving COI should match the building's exact instructions. Common requests include the mover's legal name, policy information, certificate holder, additional insured entities, dates, limits and building address.
Responsibility for wall-mounted TVs and AV equipment should be assigned before an office move. Movers may transport prepared equipment, while AV or IT vendors often handle disconnecting, mounting, configuration and testing.
Before the moving truck leaves, do a room-by-room final sweep, check closets and storage areas, compare the inventory, confirm keys and documents, and note visible damage or missing items before signing off.
A small interstate shipment can still trigger a carrier minimum because the mover is reserving transportation capacity over a long route. FMCSA notes that many movers use minimum weight charges, so ask for the minimum before booking instead of assuming a lighter shipment will always produce a proportionally lower price.
Tell the mover before moving day. Added or removed furniture, boxes, stairs, stops, or specialty items can affect crew, truck space, time, and price. Ask for an updated written quote rather than waiting for the crew to discover the change onsite.
For interstate household-goods moves, a mover can use volume during estimating, but federal rules require specific handling of weight-based charges. For a non-binding estimate, the mover generally must determine the shipment’s actual weight on a certified scale, and volume estimates must explain the volume-to-weight conversion.
Usually, no. If professional movers are handling the move, ask whether furniture pads, blankets, stretch wrap and mattress protection are included before wrapping large pieces yourself.
A small ordinary collection may be manageable with proper bottle boxes and short local transport, but valuable, aged or temperature-sensitive wine may justify specialty handling or dedicated climate-controlled transport. Confirm the mover’s alcohol policy before booking.
